Location and accommodation
History of the House
The apartments are located in the house - an object of cultural heritage, built in the early 20th century in the neoclassical style with elements of Art Nouveau. It is known as the "Salamander Insurance House". The building also houses the Romanian Consulate General. In our house lived Agrippina Yakovlevna Vaganova (1879-1951), professor, the greatest figure of Russian choreography, it is reminded by a memorial plaque on the facade.
Location
Gorokhovaya Street is the middle of the three central thoroughfares of St. Petersburg. The concept of three rays fanning out from the central tower of the Admiralty (the so-called "Admiralty Trident") was developed by architect P. M. Yeropkin for the St. Petersburg development plan back in the 18th century.
Culture
To the right of the entrance to our archway, across the street, is the building of the Main Admiralty, a significant monument of Russian Classicist architecture. Since 2012, it has been home to the General Command of the Russian Navy. The ship on the spire of the building is considered one of the historical symbols of the city. The Admiralty Needle is depicted on the medal "For the Defense of Leningrad".
Shopping
If you exit our archway and turn left along Gorokhovaya Street, you should pay attention to the Au Pont Rouge ("At the Red Bridge") department store, the first multi-story store in Russia. The luxurious Art Nouveau building was built more than 100 years ago. It is an architectural monument of federal significance and is located on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Now operates as a working store, 5 minutes walk from our apartments (corner of the Moika and Gorokhovaya Streets).
